Mary
Matha Boys Cottage is a home for the destitute
was founded by Fr. Alex Chakkalayil, an
Orthodox Syrian priest of Kunnamkulam
Diocese, Kerala, South India. |

In
1994, he became the vicar of Mar
Basselious Mar Gregorios Orthodox
Syrian Church, Moolepat, Pengamuck.
There he had to face different
kinds of calamities. Before long
he became seriously ill due to
some severe problems of his heart
and liver. It was a period of
agony and distress for him. He
was avoided by all and was helpless.
In his extreme poverty he cried
to God. He attended retreats and
became strong in mind and rejoiced
in Holy Spirit. He confessed before
God and forgave his enemies.
Amazingly
Fr. Alex recovered his health.
He worshipped and praised God
without restriction and in his
ecstasy he enjoyed the presence
of the Holy Spirit.Some of the
brothers from the retreat center
predicted that he should start
a home for the destitute. With
this idea in mind but without
economic sources to step forward
he wept in grief.

By this time he was dipped in debt and
that aroused further problems. He couldn't
find any remedy for his torture. He was
silent in front of his destiny. Since
problems mounted him one after the other
without any limits, he thought of fulfilling
God’s wish. From the depth of his
soul he took a resolution that he would
start a home for the helpless poor boys.
He continued his fasting and prayers. |

And
at last Rev. Fr. C.V. Abraham,
Pazhanji inaugurated the institution
officially, on 02-02-2000 at the
convention pavilion of Moolepat
Church. Then he began to search
for the deserving boys. Soon children
began to rush to the institution.
Since this institution was a devine
plan of God some generous people
appointed by God came forward
with food for the inmates. Fr.
Alex ever respected Saints and
he has a special attachment to
Virgin Mary and St. Joseph. It
was from a august vision that
he prefixed Boys Cottage to Mary
Matha i.e. Mary Matha
Boys Cottage .
